Google just kicked BMW German site (www.bmw.de) out of its listings for trying to meddle with it’s page ranking system. What did the Germans do? They used a technique called SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which boosts up page popularity on Google Search.
According to Google Blogoscoped, the doorway page included the word “gebrauchtwagen” (meaning used car in German) more than 40 times. The real home page which users where addressed contained the word only twice…Although BMW removed the pages when the news broke (it is reported that they where using this technique for almost two years!), Google punished BMW by banning the site (www.bmw.de) from almost any imaginable top search result, and a degrading of the PageRank to the lowest possible value
